Marching towards 100!
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL SOCIETY
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society is a non profit Italian American club on 8th Street in Verplanck, New York. It was established in 1922 by a handful of immigrants from Calabria, Italy, most of whom worked at the quarry in Verplanck. The Mt.Carmel Society has grown from that small group of men to a record number one hundred thirty-five members in 2015. We also have an active Ladies Auxiliary with over 30 members.
The mission of the Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is to support our community and neighbors through donations and charitable work while keeping the Italian tradition alive.
Throughout the year the Mt. Carmel Society holds several events such as Las Vegas Night, the annual Chubby Capicotti Memorial Golf Outing, dinners, clambakes, picnics and the annual Italian Feast - always the third weekend in July. The Feast is our main source of funding and we look forward to hosting it every year. We have the distinction of being the longest running Feast in the Hudson Valley; 2015 will be 93nd. We are also the home of the World's Largest Tarntella!
